Oops, ICE Murdered Again
Here we are. Another weekend. Another Murder by one of the agencies under the protection of the Department of Homeland Security. This time, by agents of the CPB (Customs and Border Patrol)... but the difference between CPB and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) hardly matters anymore as CPB's remit has blurred into the same or similar to that of ICE. Even the 100-mile zone that is generally considered for the meaning of "reasonable distance" in Section 287 of the Immigration and Nationality Act generally doesn't seem to make any difference as to where CPB officers may join in. But, at least CPB has Greg Bovino to spurt incessant propaganda that tries to dismiss what eyes can see.
Now, unlike the Renee Good murder (and, yes, I am now just going to call these killings for what they are with no obfuscation like homicide) where one could make a tortured argument that the first shot was legitimate because the officer may have felt that his life was actually in danger (for the record, I do not believe that narrative as the videos do not show that... but also because the officer put himself in the position to be harmed)... there is no such argument in the case of Alex Pretti. This was a man who was utilizing his first amendment rights to protest. His first amendment rights to film in public place. His first amendment rights to help a lady who was pushed to the ground by DHS officers for no reason other than she was "in the way." Pretti was also utilizing his second amendment rights (and Minnesota laws) to carry a concealed weapon. A weapon which he never unholstered. A weapon which never in his hand. A weapon which was unholstered and removed from Pretti by a government agent prior to his execution.

So, what will the second murder by government agents in Minnesota in less than 3 weeks actually do in the United States? The truth is, I don't know. Neither do you. Neither does anyone. However, Trump's poll numbers are already in the toilet. This will not make them rise higher. The funding bill for DHS will almost certainly not be voted on by the senate... at least not in the currently passed by the House of Representative form. Which will result in another partial shutdown of the US. Frankly, it needs to happen again to show the general public that this is an issue that the powers that be will stand up to.
However, it will likely not lead to any accountability for Donald Trump or his enablers in the government. Not yet. Perhaps Trump will sacrifice Kristi Noem or Greg Bovino for optics. But, the purveyor of this policy of cruelty (Stephen Miller) will still be in the White House being the puppetmaster for all of the sadistic actions of this administration regime.
So, what will help? Protests are a visible form of dissatisfaction. Lawful, peaceful protests (like Selma 1965) have proved fruitful over the years.
The second thing is a National Economic Strike, as proposed by Scott Galloway (and likely others). What we know is that Trump has only backpeddled on his policies when the stock/economic markets has been rattled.
The third thing is to vote out the political supporters of these actions. This does not mean only Republicans. It also means the Democratic House representatives who signed on to the bill which gave DHS even more funding for the upcoming year. (including Jared Golden of Maine and New York's Tom Souzzi and Laura Gillen). It also means calling your representatives in Congress, your representatives in your states and your local representatives (mayors, selectmen, etc.) and inform them of your opposition to this oppression of our Bill of Rights.
The United States is no longer in a potential crisis. We are in the middle of a full-blown catastrophe. We are in the middle of an attempted fascist/authoritarian takeover. There is a way to stop this. But, it takes all of us to speak out against the flagrant power grab against the will of the people.
I know leave you with two videos. One from a youtuber who does not usually talk directly about politics.
The second is from Legal Eagle (Devin Stone). This is not his normal deep dive into the actual law. Because there is no need for that.
I'll just leave this post with the final words of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Good: "That's fine dude. I'm not mad at you." (To her assassin, Jonathan Ross).
Pretti: "Are you OK" (To the woman pushed down by the federal agent).
